The Environmental team at Mayer Brown are shortly due to publish their white paper charting the turbulent arguments around the use of diesel on the UK roads in the 21st Century. However, they must first await the latest instalment in the form of Chancellor Philip Hammond’s budget on Wednesday. Will he heed the call of Sadiq Kahn, business leaders and charities calling for a national diesel scrappage fund and increase in diesel excise duty? Or will he be swayed by recent reports on the measured reduction of black carbon across the UK (a compound associated with diesel usage) and reports of significant improvements in new vehicle emissions?
