Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs)
At Mayer Brown we have the expertise and experience to undertake a wide variety of Environmental Impact Assessments. Working along side our specialist colleagues in transportation and drainage design, we have built up an impressive track record in environmental planning support on a diverse range of projects ranging from highways to major development areas, large scale residential, mixed use developments and renewable energy developments.
The Mayer Brown team can provide project management for the complete environmental planning process, right through from initial screening and scoping of EIAs to submission of Environmental Statements. In fact we are increasingly asked to remain with projects through the implementation phase, handling such issues as the Site Waste Management Plans, Construction Environmental Management Plans and providing on-site Environmental Managers to deal with contractors and regulatory authorities.
Our EIA and related services include:
- Initial appraisals of development sites to determine environmental constraints;
- Screening the need for EIA;
- Scoping and containing the content and level of detail required in an EIA;
- Assessment of site baseline conditions, alternatives to the proposed development, and cumulative impacts assessment;
- Provision of planning context, socio-economic assessments and sustainability inputs;
- Drawing together teams of specialists and providing project management;
- Development of avoidance and mitigation measures;
- Introduction of measures to influence the design process and mitigate development impacts;
- Production of an Environmental Statement (ES) to support a planning application; and
- Review and interpretation of Environmental Statements to ensure quality.
