Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Scheme Objectives:This development will provide a new state of the art retail store for Sainsbury’s, as well as the replacement and enlargement of a multi story car park, a residential development, a new piazza, enhanced facilities for public transport users and improved pedestrian links between the site and other town centre shops and businesses.
The scheme included a temporary, edge of town, park and ride facility required during the construction phase of the project during the demolition of the existing multi story car park.
This is a major, multi million pound, town centre regeneration project which will have a significant impact on retail and traffic behaviour in and around Maidenhead.
Mayer Brown’s Role:
Mayer Brown were appointed to provide all the Highways and Traffic advice for the project. The extent of work was substantial and involved the provision of advice and other services covering the following areas:
- An in depth Transport Assessment of the impact of the development on the traffic patterns in the surrounding road network including junction analysis, estimates of traffic generation and modal analysis.
- The access arrangements for all the new facilities.
- Recommendations for and the Design of Highway improvements.
- Design of new Car Parking facilities and their management.
- The Design and Implementation of the temporary Park and Ride scheme.
- Detailed layout drawings for the new highway network and pedestrian footways showing the effect on existing services and recommendations for relocation.
- Organising a stopping up order to free up land for additional development.
- The supply of cost estimates for the Highway works.
- A new Traffic Management system and Signal arrangement.
- Site supervision of Highway works.
