Streetscape Improvements, Park Street Maze, Luton

Project Section:

Transport Planning & Infrastructure Design

Client:

Luton Borough Council

Mayer Brown was responsible for the detailed design of the pedestrian area with a brief to ensure that the scheme was an effective and practical solution which met the requirements of Luton Borough Council.

Scheme Objectives:
To improve the streetscape of public spaces outside of Luton’s Amdale Shopping Centre, incorporating play areas, seating areas and specialist lighting concepts built into the seating and the paving areas.

The concept is based on Luton’s “Past and Present”, incorporating details of historical events and drawings produced by children from local schools. This idea is conveyed through block paving and illuminated resin panels.

The concept includes a number of “mazes” of varying complexity which provides a novel and interesting dimension to the streetscape solution.

The scheme incorporates stylised block paving in the pedestrianised area of the town centre which highlight the mazes in fun patterns and provide an attraction for shoppers to visit the town.
