Reading Borough CouncilScheme Objectives:
To enhance the amenity and appearance of a 2.5km length of Oxford Road, Reading; an important radial route into and out of Reading Town Centre.
The scheme required the principal traffic function of Oxford Road to be maintained whilst improving the facilities for local businesses, local residents and other road users.
Mayer Brown’s Role:
Mayer Brown formulated new traffic management arrangements including on-street parking and loading facilities, defined pedestrian routes and crossings, cycle facilities and bus stops.
This was all done in the context of producing a traffic calmed environment in which the dominance of the motor car was much reduced.
Mayer Brown produced all the engineering drawings and specifications for the works and then oversaw and administered the construction contracts.
Mayer Brown was responsible for cost control of the implementation of this £1.2M project.
