Mixed Use Scheme - Plough Lane, Wimbledon

Project Section:

Transport Planning & Infrastructure Design

Client:

David Wilson Homes

Scheme Objectives:

To assist the Developer, of this Residential and Mixed Use Scheme, to obtain Local Authority approval for the development by providing means to encourage residents to use public transport or find an alternative to car ownership.

Mayer Brown’s Role:

Mayer Brown has received national recognition recently with the inclusion of the travel plan for the mixed use development at Plough Lane in the Department for Transport’s ‘Best Practice Guidelines
for Residential Developments’.

The Plough Lane Travel Plan provided an innovative package of measures, to encourage people to travel by means other than the private car, which include:

  • Introducing a new bus service for residents and providing a discounted travel scheme.
  • Providing cycle storage for residents and a discounted cycle scheme
  • Setting up a Community Travel Web Site and providing Travel Folders for residents
  • Providing a car club for residents and the local community

By explaining the Plough Lane proposals, to both the local Community and the Council, in an easy to understand manner, we were able to obtain planning approval for the scheme. The Greater London Authority described the proposals as:

“A template for future travel plans for residential and mixed use schemes in London”
