Scheme Objectives:

Develop a cycle parking strategy for the town centre of Kingston upon Thames and foster cycling as an attractive mode of transport.

Mayer Brown’s Role:

All survey work, identification of demand for safe, secure, attractive, demand responsive cycle parking, tailored to user groups with reference to examples in the UK and abroad.

Identified / assessed the viability of potential cycle parking provision at specific locations. Developed an integrated approach to address such issues as developing enthusiasm, based on success to date, building constructively on all positive aspects of the public mood. Proposed a shortlist for immediate action.

The findings were included in the Unitary Development Plan process and are actively being considered by employers and The Mayor of London.

The study has prompted the Council to develop numerous initiatives to support and build upon the 2,500 cyclists that travel through the town centre during peak hours.
