Hest Bank Parking Study
Project Section:
Transport Planning & Infrastructure DesignClient:
Lancaster City CouncilScheme Objectives:
To assess the impact on vehicle parking locations if a proposed cycle path was implemented to improve cycle access between the local highway network and canal towpath.
Mayer Brown’s Role:
To gain an insight into how people use and access the canal and establishing the demand for vehicle parking in the vicinity of the canal. In addition, Mayer Brown completed an assessment of the potential for existing canal users to be attracted to the new access if opened for pedestrians and cyclists.
Face to face surveys of existing canal and towpath users and canal boat owners were carried out to establish current travel habits to the canal, including origin of trips, mode of travel and to see if car parking was an issue. Parking capacity in the area was identified to determine the level of parking supply and demand.
