Filton CollegeScheme Objectives:
Filton college has approximately 5,000 students and 500 staff. A new sports campus has recently been constructed on a site approximately 1km from the existing main campus. A Travel Plan was required as part of the sports campus planning permission. The objectives of the Travel Plan were to:
- Assess the existing student travel origins and choice of mode as part of a comprehensive travel survey.
- Complete a detailed walk, cycle, bus and rail audit in the locality to identify barriers to travelling to college via non-car modes of transportation.
- Assess the existing management of the car park and the demand for car parking spaces.
- Complete an on site facilites audit (i.e. shower faciltes, locker facilites, loans for season tickets, cycle parking).
Mayer Brown’s Role:
Mayer Brown put forward a number of recommendations which encompassed both physical and managerial measures to address the existing problems and issues that had been identified at the college. These measures are currently being implemented by the college and it is anticipated that the number of walk, cycle and bus trips to the college will increase by a significant degree over the next 5 years.
