Provision of air quality assessments to support Client planning applications.
Mayer Brown’s Role:
Mayer Brown produced Air Quality Assessments in support of planning applications for new B&Q developments in New Malden and Sidcup, and for a mixed use development in the centre of Rochford, Essex.
In Rochford, the Environmental Health Officer had raised concerns that due to the congested nature of the town centre, there might be unacceptable increases in traffic related pollution. In all cases quantification of potential impacts were required.
Mayer Brown undertook a desk based assessment using the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) air quality screening model, which took account of the canyon effect of the roads in Rochford
town centre. The model used emissions associated with predicted traffic flows and HGV percentages as advised in the Mayer Brown transport assessment. The air quality assessment was undertaken using the tools and approach specified in the Local Air Quality Management Technical Guidance Note LAQM TG. (03).
Agreement of the scope of the assessments and the subsequent findings were agreed with the appropriate Environmental Health Officers.
