Colchester Eastern Approach Road, Essex

Essex County Council and Tesco SupermarketsScheme Objectives:
To provide major traffic relief to The Haven area of Colchester, including removal of a main road from a route which incorporated a level crossing of the busy London to Ipswich railway line.
Mayer Brown's Role:
Mayer Brown carried out extensive transport and traffic studies of the Haven area to identify a preffered route for a new road into Colchester town centre from the east. The Eastern Approach road scheme was constructed at a cost of £10million and involved two major structures; one over the main line London to Ipswich railway and the other over the River Coln, a navigable waterway. A particular feature of the EAR scheme was the manner in which it allowed derelict industrial and warehouse sites to be fully serviced by new access arrangements, as well as accommodating strict planning policies relating to existing buildings and features of the old town area of The Haven, Colchester.
