Urban Extension, North West Cheltenham

Project Section:

Transport Planning & Infrastructure Design

Client:

Persimmon Homes / Bloor Homes / JG Land & Estates

Scheme Objectives:

Highways consultancy support for a proposed urban extension at Cheltenham, planned to include more than 5,000 housing units, employment land and a new transport interchange.

Mayer Brown’s Role:

Mayer Brown has provided transport planning and highway consultancy advice for the proposed development since its inception.
Work has included master-planning support with a transport strategy focussing on sustainable transport modes. The key to success required minimising car trips onto a busy local highway network.
The transport strategy received a favourable response from all parties and ensured the sites inclusion as an area for development within the Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West.
Work also included GIS accessibility modelling combined with census data, to identify existing trip patterns within the sub-region, and completion of topographical surveys of the 700 acre development site.
