Gas Storage Facility, Cheshire

Project Section:

Transport Planning & Infrastructure Design

Client:

King Street Energy

Scheme Objectives:

Establish the options available for transporting 60 million litres of salt brine and water per day, to and from a proposed gas storage site.

Mayer Brown’s Role:

Mayer Brown’s North West Office provided an independent review of transport options for the site, as part of an environmental due diligence process.
Previously completed technical work for the project had assumed transportation of the salt brine via pipelines was the best option available.
Mayer Brown’s transport planning team with MDS Transmodal assessed transporting the salt brine and water by road, rail and waterway. This was then compared to the original proposal for pipeline transportation. Consultations were conducted with Local Authorities, Network Rail and British Waterways to provide a robust review.
A Transport Options Report was produced detailing the merits of the various transportation methods and a preferred solution.
