Key Lancaster Junction Gets a Make-Over

Key Lancaster Junction Gets a Make-Over

Construction works to improve one of Lancaster’s busiest and most constrained junctions has now been completed. The junction is the principal gateway to the city centre from the south, and presented a significant barrier for pedestrian and cycle movements.

Mayer Brown has been involved in the project with Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County Council from its inception, and are delighted to see the plans evolve from the drawing board and onto the ground.

The junction now includes provision for previously banned movements and extra carriageway space for cyclists, and wider pedestrian crossings. All without detriment to traffic flows. The improvement has reduced street clutter by removing pedestrian barriers and reducing signage where appropriate. This approach is reflecting the very latest in best practice and is the first junction in Lancaster to receive this treatment.
