Inclusive Design For Getting Outdoors

There is growing evidence that well-designed outdoor spaces can enhance the long-term health and wellbeing of those who use them regularly. At I’DGO (Inclusive Design for Getting Outdoors), the aim is to examine what this means for older people. But are older peoples needs reflected in current policy? And does the latest ‘best practice’ in the design of outdoor spaces really meet the needs of all users?

Mayer Brown are on the advisory panel for I’DGO TOO research, working with the OPENspace team. The I'DGO Team have produced a short film about their work.

Revised PPG13: Transport Issued

A revised version of Planning Policy Guidance 13: Transport (PPG13) was published on the 3rd January 2011, replacing the previous document originally published on the 20th April 2001.

PPG13 sets out central government’s aims to integrate planning and transport at the national, strategic and local level and to promote more sustainable transport choices for both people and freight.

The main changes to the document relate to parking standards and charges, as set out in paragraphs 49-56.  It provides greater flexibility to local authorities in determining the parking requirements for development schemes.

North West Health Care Project Wins Award

Lytham Primary Care Centre, Lancashire, has won the RIBA East Midland Group "Out of Region” Award 2010. The project was highly commended which is the highest award available for an 'out of region' project.

Antony Kavanagh of BRP Architects, designers of the award winning centre, noted ‘We are obviously delighted.  On an evening where so many projects had been shortlisted that had not had the complexities we all faced on the project and the careful economics we needed to consider, it was excellent for Lytham to be rightly recognised.’

Transport consultants Mayer Brown, worked closely with the client and Lancashire County Council to develop a deliverable package of transport measures for the project.

Mark Butt, Mayer Brown’s North West Regional Manager noted that ‘The development provides a great health facility for the area, and we are proud to be part of the award winning scheme’.
