How the Project Supported SoHostel's Fund for the Homeless

Guests staying at the hostel will also be helping out London’s homeless as profits from SoHostel fund Arlington – the UK’s largest mixed use hostel.

Curating a Detailed Environmental Noise Survey

Mayer Brown was instructed by One Housing to prepare a Noise Impact Assessment to accompany a planning application for SoHostel. In addition to the backpacker accommodation, the scheme included a number of ancillary uses including a coffee shop and a roof terrace.

Mayer Brown undertook detailed environmental noise survey work to provide the advice necessary to develop the scheme in line with the City of Westminster’s local planning policies – in particular, the mitigation necessary to control noise intrusion and control noise from new building services installations. Mayer Brown Limited also provided pro-active, expert advice during the consultation stage of project to address any concerns raised by the local residents and statutory consultees.

Implementing the Survey Results

Planning permission for the hostel was granted in April 2016. The hostel is now operational and offers the cheapest rooms in W1 for over 150 budget travellers with a range of single, double, twin and dorm rooms. Located only minutes from Oxford Street, Soho Square, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, the bright lights of the capital are practically on the doorstep.
