Cycle Networks
Mayer Brown’s skill in resolving complex problems for a wide range of private and public sector clients has resulted in us being appointed Sector Consultants to the London Cycle Network in South West London – another major appointment we’re proud to announce.
Developing routes and design proposals with cross-party support
Our input has ensured that cycle facilities are being considered as part of a range of projects throughout the South West London area. Exploiting our strong links with the Boroughs, Sustrans and Transport for London we have been successful in opening up proposals for new routes, identifying opportunities and acting as a catalyst for reaching agreements between parties. That contribution has enabled the Boroughs within the South West to develop and implement their Priority Strategic Routes (PSRs).
Identifying, developing and establishing the exact routing of PSRs. Route option studies were carried out:
- Between Wimbledon (Woodside) and Raynes Park Station.
- Within Croydon Town Centre.
- Within Richmond Town Centre.
- Within Barnes Common area.
- Between Raynes Park and New Malden.
Preparing the PSR Schedule of Works including where possible:
- Consistent and continuous lane provision.
- Textured paving.
- Kerb alterations.
- Central island widening.
- Landscaping and streetscaping.
- Cycle parking.
- Route maps and signposting.
- Removal of ‘clutter’ such as superfluous signs, barriers and bollards.
- Improved separation from vehicular traffic.
- Prominent cycle crossings.
Consulting local authorities to ensure that proposed routes meet both their needs and those of the local cycling fraternity.
Mayer Brown was instrumental in assisting the resolution of conflicting priorities between the local authorities and the Cycle Network Project Team in order to achieve consensus on cycle route proposals.
Developing outline design proposals for many important sections of the network.
Detailed design proposals across the cycle network for: Croydon, Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Richmond, Putney and Clapham Junction.
Modelling
Our strong industry contacts and expertise enables us to carry out modelling work. Such work is often subject to authorisation by Transport for London’s Bus Initiative Team (LBI), the Congestion Charging Scheme (CCS) and involves third party consultants.
